Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease an 8x8 inch baking pan with shortening. Place the greased pan in the oven to heat while preparing the cornbread batter.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the yellow cornmeal, sugar, flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Ensure these dry ingredients are well mixed.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, slightly beaten eggs, vanilla extract, and melted butter until the mixture is smooth and uniform.
Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Stir until just moistened, being careful not to overmix. A few lumps are perfectly fine.
Remove the hot, greased pan from the oven and pour the cornbread batter into it, spreading evenly.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cornbread comes out clean. The top should be golden brown.
Remove the baked cornbread from the oven and immediately brush the top generously with honey.
Allow the Honey Hush Cornbread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before cutting it into squares and serving.
