Method

Follow the steps in order for the best result.

  1. Place the potato chunks in a large pot and cover with salted water. Bring to a boil and cook for approximately 15-25 minutes, or until the potatoes are easily pierced with a fork, indicating they are fully tender. Cooking time will vary depending on the size of the potato chunks.
  2. Once the potatoes are tender, carefully drain all the water from the pot. Return the drained potatoes to the pot and place over medium heat for about 1 minute. This step helps to evaporate any excess water, resulting in fluffier mashed potatoes.
  3. Remove the pot from the heat. Using a potato masher or an electric mixer, begin to mash the potatoes until they reach your desired consistency. Add the room temperature butter, warmed milk, and minced fresh chives. Continue to mash or mix until all ingredients are well combined and the potatoes are smooth and creamy.
  4. Season the mashed potatoes generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper to your liking. Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed.
